Our story and mission

Lumuno began from our lived experiences. A collective journey through neurodivergence, chronic illness, trauma, migration, and the gaps we’ve all encountered in mental health care. As a team, we wanted something that was compassionate, culturally aware, accessible, sensory-friendly, and grounded in real life. We wanted support that honoured science and humanity; structure and softness; identity and belonging.

Meet The Team

Hi, I’m Buya Nangoma Simatele (she/her). I’m a neuroscientist, artist, and mental health advocate and the founder of Lumuno CIC. My background is in genetics, microbiology, and neuroscience, but my real training has come from navigating neurodivergence, chronic illness, and the realities of being a disabled Black woman in mental health spaces that were never built with us in mind.

Guardians of Lumuno

The Guardians of Lumuno are more than illustrations. They are living symbols of resilience, imagination, and collective healing. Each Guardian carries a story woven from African and Celtic mythologies, neurodivergent wisdom, and the grounding principles of Ubuntu. They represent the parts of us that are brave, tender, curious, or tired. The parts that need protection, guidance, creativity, or rest.
